X is replacing its Creator Revenue Sharing program with a new monetization system focused on original content and qualified impressions.

The platform stopped accepting new applications for Creator Revenue Sharing on August 7 and will end the program on September 7. Existing participants can continue earning under the old system through that date.

X will begin rolling out access to its new Original Content Rewards program to existing Revenue Sharing members on September 8. Creators must meet the new eligibility requirements to apply. X's Original Content Rewards rules

The new program requires at least 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users over the previous 90 days. Replies do not count toward the impression requirement.

Creators must also be at least 18, have an account in good standing, maintain an eligible X Premium subscription and regularly publish original content.

X Changes What Counts

X says Original Content Rewards covers original reporting, analysis, videos, photographs, graphics, illustrations and memes.

Commentary and reactions can qualify when they add meaningful material.

Copied or substantially reproduced content does not qualify. X also excludes content downloaded from another platform and reuploaded to X.

The change replaces a program that used verified impressions and other engagement factors to determine creator payments.

Under Creator Revenue Sharing, creators needed at least 5 million organic impressions over three months, 500 verified followers and an eligible Premium subscription.

The new program lowers the stated impression threshold but places greater emphasis on the nature of the content being published.

Qualified Impressions Drive Rewards

Not every view counts under the new system.

X defines a qualified impression as a unique impression from a Premium subscriber on the Home Timeline when at least 50% of the post is visible.

Impressions generated through replies do not count toward the 500,000-impression eligibility threshold.

X has not published a fixed payment rate per qualified impression. The company instead sets the qualifying audience and content requirements that determine which impressions can contribute to rewards.

The program also requires creators to maintain an eligible Premium subscription.

Revenue Sharing Ends September 7

Creator Revenue Sharing will remain active for existing participants until September 7.

X says payments under the old program are scheduled for August 14 and August 28, with a final payment for earnings accrued through September 7 expected around September 11. X's Creator Revenue Sharing rules

New enrollments for the old program ended August 7.

Existing Revenue Sharing members will begin receiving access to apply for Original Content Rewards on September 8, according to X.

Creators can check their eligibility through Creator Studio under Original Content Rewards.

X Draws A Line Around Reposted Content

The new rules give X a defined list of content that can qualify and content that cannot.

Original reporting and analysis are eligible. So are creator-made videos and photographs, along with graphics, illustrations and memes.

Reposted or substantially reproduced material is excluded.

So is content taken from another platform and uploaded to X without meaningful original work.

X said the new program is intended to reward "original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary."

The eligibility rules also require creators to remain in good standing on the platform.

The New Thresholds

For creators considering the new program, the requirements are straightforward:

  • At least 500 verified followers.
  • At least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users during the previous 90 days.
  • An eligible X Premium subscription.
  • An account in good standing.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Regular publication of original content.

Meeting those requirements does not mean every impression will generate a reward. X's definition of qualified impressions limits the views used in the rewards calculation to qualifying Premium-user impressions on the Home Timeline.

The platform has not provided a universal dollar value for those impressions.

For existing Revenue Sharing participants, the immediate deadline is September 7. The replacement program begins its application rollout the following day.
